There are so many ways to keep cool this summer: ice cream, pool parties, wearing our sweet new tank tops, and hitting the air-conditioned movie theater for a two-hour adventure. We've rounded up trailers for six of the biggest movies set to ignite internet discussion over the next two months. Which one are you looking forward to?
Godzilla, May 16th.
He turns 60 this year, but Godzilla is far from retirement. The classic movie monster reinvents himself today with a man vs. nature horror-thriller that promises the most chillingly realistic vision yet of the titular lizard and the disastrous impact he would have on our modern world.
X-Men: Days of Future Past, May 23th.
The series that began the superhero movie craze back in 2000 returns with a time-travel-tastic story where mutants from both the original trilogy and First Class team up to stop an android army from destroying society. Bonus tacky '70s fashions!
Maleficent, May 30.
Disney pulls back the cloak and shows you the rise of one of its most popular villains, the evil sorceress from Sleeping Beauty. Star Angelina Jolie says this was one of her favorite movies growing up and she was always fascinated by the Maleficent character, and she is sure to create a delightfully dark performance in her honor.
The Fault in Our Stars, June 6.
Based on the novel by YA bestseller and Tumblr favorite John Green, two teens meet and fall in love in a cancer support group. Pack your tissues: this could be the most tear-jerking theatrical experience since Toy Story 3.
How To Train Your Dragon 2, June 13.
One of the best all-ages films of recent years is back with matured characters, an expanded dragon bestiary, and the surprise reappearance of Hiccup's mother, who is even more adept with dragons than he is. We're excited for more gorgeous Dreamworks animation!
Guardians of the Galaxy, August 1st.
OOGA OOGA OOGA CHAKA. This may be the latest of the summer blockbusters this year but it's primed to be the greatest. Marvel's new addition to their cinematic universe is an even more unlikely band of heroes than the Avengers, here to save the world, be snarky, and drop squeal-worthy hints to future superhero movies in a never-ending chain of awesome.
