2014 was an epic year of nerd-tastic releases. We saw two relatively-unknown comic series— Big Hero 6 and Guardians of the Galaxy— get turned into wildly popular blockbuster movies that captivated millions of new fans. Nintendo cranked out some gems like Super Smash Bros. 4 and Mario Kart 8 to compete with surefire blockbusters like Destiny and Grand Theft Auto V. And no spoilers, but stuff went DOWN in The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, among many others.
Get ready, because 2015 is going to be even better. Here are our top ten most-anticipated video game, TV, and movie releases for 2015:
Looking for a new anime to bite into and don’t mind a little blood? Tokyo Ghoul will be right up your alley! The second season has already started, so if you haven't started the first season yet, you've got some catchin' up to do. It'll be well worth it!
Having collectively played every Final Fantasy game as an office, we are super excited about Final Fantasy XV. The graphics look incredible, there is a new Square Enix director in charge of developing the game, and there is a really sweet looking car in it. A CAR!
There's been LOADS of suspense building up for this season. HBO has released the three-eyed Raven teasers, the official Season 5 trailer just received an R-Rating, and the last two episodes of Season 4 are officially the first television show ever to be shown on IMAX. With a lot of dramatic suspense carrying over from last season, and tons of new characters to be introduced, this has potential to be the best season yet. According to Kit Harrington, we’ll be seeing a lot of Jon Snow. We're guessing that’s okay with all the ladies.
If you love Batman and don't have a next-gen console yet, this gameplay trailer will make you want one. This will definitely be the closest we have ever gotten to being Batman.
So you mean to tell me this movie's about Paul Rudd shrinking himself so he can ride around on bugs and it’s a Marvel superhero movie? You have our attention.
Love 'em or hate 'em, these anthropomorphic, goggle-wearing, gibberish-talking, banana-eating Twinkies got their own movie.
The biggest movie of the year. And not just for nerds, but for everyone. Ultron, voiced by James Spader, is looking to be the most memorable and menacing supervillain since Heath Ledger’s Joker. IRON MAN, SMASH!..?
Since there are three of us in the office currently playing Ocarina of Time 3D, I think it’s safe to say we'll enjoy the countless mini-games and side quests of Majora’s Mask 3D. We seriously can’t wait to see what little tricks Nintendo has up their sleeve for this remake of one of the best Zelda games ever.
In a recent interview about the movie, Mark Hamill (who will be reprising his role as Luke Skywalker) made the point that “the most interesting aspect… is that [Star Wars] is now in the hands of the generation who were fans.” Some people have their doubts about this movie.
Despite what anyone speculates about Star Wars 7, you know where to find us on opening night. And with the trailer having over 54 million hits on YouTube, we won't be the only ones there. There's a good chance we'll be wearing one of these.
Star Wars fans, this holiday it's going to really feel like Christmas for you. Although there hasn't been an exact date announced, Star Wars Battlefront, the newest and most anticipated game in the franchise, will likely come out in November before the movie!
As you can see, Star Wars and EA haved poured a lot of time, talent, and technology into this reboot of the Battlefront series. At E3 2014, EA revealed that the planet Hoth and the forest moon of Endor would be playable maps for the game. You know what that means...
These are just a few of the many amazing games, TV shows, and movies that we are geeking out about this year. What are you excited about?
